The UCC sports team on Tuesday set off to Egypt to participate in its first ever African Universities Olympic games. The contingent of twenty five (25) is made up of eighteen (18) athletes and seven (7) officials.
The team which is led by the Pro Vice Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Dora Francisca Edu Buandoh also includes the chairman of Sports and Recreation committee, UCC who is also President of the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA), Dr. Charles Domfeh.
The games which begin on Tuesday 12th to the 19th of March, 2019 will see more than thirty (30) universities across Africa competing for laurels in athletics, soccer and basketball. The University of Cape Coast and the University of Ghana are the only representatives for Ghana at the games.
The University of Cape Coast which placed third and the best among all universities at the West Africa Universities Games would want to replicate their performance on the continental stage. Seasoned athletes like Margaret Simpson, Latifa Ali, Vivian Mills, Mathew Nantiere, Ali Sharafic and Shadrack Opoku Agyemang who have represented Ghana at various world stages will boost UCC’s chances to make an impact at the games.
