The UCC sports team on Tuesday set off to Egypt to participate in its first ever African Universities Olympic games. The contingent of twenty five (25) is made up of eighteen (18) athletes and seven (7) officials.

The team which is led by the Pro Vice Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Dora Francisca Edu Buandoh also includes the chairman of Sports and Recreation committee, UCC who is also President of the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA), Dr. Charles Domfeh.

The University of Cape Coast and the University of Ghana are the only representatives for Ghana at the games. The performance of the athletes was oustanding as it brought smiles on the faces of Management and other students.

Peter Nantiere and Ali Mohammed placed first and second respectively in the 1500 metres men event.

Rose Yeboah of UCC set her personal best record in high jump clearing the bar at 1.74m to record UCC's first gold medal in the ongoing African Universities Olympic games in Egypt.

UCC wins silver and bronze in the women's 400 metres. Vivian Mills and Hajuaha Bramah placed second and third respectively in women's 400 metres event in the ongoing African Universities Olympic games in Cairo.

The Athletes event of the African Universities Olympic games is underway and UCC's Latifa Ali and Janet mensah have both won their 100 meters heat events.

Shadrack Opoku Agyeman also won 100 meters heat 4.
