One Killed, Four Injured at Gomoa Mpota In Land Clash

One person is reported dead after an argument over a land involving some individuals turned bloody at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region.

According to the Police, on April 13, 2019, Bright Duah, a businessman and a resident of both Mpota and Kasoa reported that eight men armed with pump action guns and a cutlass had attacked and shot the deceased on a piece of land at Gomoa Mpota.

Giving details of the incident, the Central Regional Police PRO, DSP Irene Serwaa Oppong indicated that Suspect Bright Duah, a business man and resident of Kasoa and Mpota reported that on Saturday, about eight men armed with a pump action gun and cutlasses  attacked  and shot at  him on a piece of land at Mpota .  The suspect said he escaped and entered his house      about 100 meters away, picked his pump action gun and shot at the young men injuring four.

Police accompanied by suspect went to the Trauma and Specialist hospital and found three victims, Benjamin Sarfo aged 23 resident of Winneba, Isaac Tetteh, 32, resident of Sowutom, Accra, and Ebenezer Mensah aged 30, of Kantanka Factory with gunshot wounds on admission receiving treatment.

The scene of the incident located about 400 meters away from the Kantanka factory and about one kilometre away from the suspect's house was visited and upon a search, police identified two spots in front of a wooden structure believed to be where the victims were shot but blood and other material evidence were found to have been cleaned by unknown persons.

Police also retrieved five empty cases  of bb cartridges L/ cpl Alex  Gyamena of 48 Eng Reg, Teshie, who has a land closed to the scene and happened to be one of the first respondents at the scene.  He indicated that he collected the cartridges few moments after the incident to secure them. One other empty bb cartilage case was also found at the scene about 100 meters away from the suspect's house where the initial confrontation happened between the suspect and victims.  Exhibit pump action gun with serial no. T088347 used by the suspect was retrieved and on examination, five live bb cartridges were found loaded in the chamber. 

Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that on Saturday 13th April, suspect Duah in the company of two others yet to be identified had a confrontation with a group of young men on a land around the Sarfo Katanka factory at Mpota and in the process suspect who was armed with a pump action gun shot at them.  About five of the young men sustained several gunshot wounds on various parts of their bodies. Suspect conveyed four of the injured to the Trauma hospital Winneba but deceased Kofi Miraku was pronounced dead on arrival while the other three are on admission receiving treatment.
